Everything you have ever read or heard about Chamonix being one of the best ski areas in Europe, with the best nightlife in the Alps, is all true. Between us we've ridden and partied in almost every resort in Europe but Chamonix was always going to be the only choice for us. . . . not that it would have made a difference if we were skiers, climbers, walkers or mountain bikers, total beginners or total pros. Situated at the foot of Mont Blanc and sandwiched between Italy and Switzerland, it has been visited by millions for over a hundred years through summer and winter. Chamonix is a "snow sure" resort with the highest lift in Europe and over 150 km of marked piste (90% over 2000 metres), ranging from almost horizontal to what feels like almost vertical, and way more easily accessible off piste, again for all standards.
We've now been here for 6 seasons and are far from bored. Unlike the purpose built resorts, Chamonix is a beautiful and lively French town full of character and characters, with enough pubs and clubs, bars and cafes to keep even the most energetic of you amused. The mountains and the slopes to be ridden, are quite simply incredible.
